But what makes this show so special?

Beside the fact that it opens this week!!

It's the first show that I've acted in at Nicholls State University.

Which I'm absolutely excited for!

But what I didn't realize is the toll it takes on you when you haven't done a full length show in four years.

I mean I'm mentally and physically exhausted!

Granted I'm playing a relatively small role.

Constantin Stanislavski once said "Remember: there are no small parts, only small actors."

Which is true in its own odd sense of a meaning.

And though my part maybe "small" I've been pulling in the hours.

Because when you're in a show ... you're in a show.

Your life begins to shape itself around your rehearsal schedule and you find yourself cancelling plans and seeing your friends less and less.

Which was fine when I was in high school, because the majority of my friends were the theatre geeks.

And it's not like I'm not accustom to giving up my time for a college show as a stage manager that's exhausting in its own right, but it's different being an actress.

I have a different set of responsibilities and priorities.

Because I'm a senior, the President of Nicholls Players, and I've been involved in productions, before I usually know the cast, crew or the production team.

But, y'all I only knew the Director, the Techincal Director, the Stage Managers, and THREE actors in an the 18 person cast.

I knew 7 out of 21 people!

And because I had a "small" role I only had three rehearsals, before we were all called.

Now that was a blessing and a curse.

It was a blessing because I had a life, and then a curse because I was thrown into a group of people I hadn't seen since read-through, while they had been getting to know each other for two months.

It was so awkward, but hallelujah for build!

I was able to bond with some amazing people and even though it's annoying to see their faces everyday!

I can truly say they make this play worthwhile.

And I know you're wondering what part is she playing?

Well I play Farrah the Fairy and next time I'll y'all why it's so physically exhausting.

Or maybe it's just because I'm out of shape?

Though it's probably both!

Nicholls State University presents She Kills Monster.

October 12th-14th at 7 p.m. in the Mary and Al Danos Theater and October 15th at 2 p.m. in the Mary and Al Danos Theater.

Ticket are $7 for students and $17 for general admission.

Samuel French synopsis of She Kills Monsters as "the story of Agnes Evans as she leaves her childhood home in Ohio following the death of her teenage sister, Tilly. When Agnes finds Tilly’s Dungeons & Dragons notebook, however, she stumbles into a journey of discovery and action-packed adventure in the imaginary world that was Tilly’s refuge. In this high-octane dramatic comedy laden with homicidal fairies, nasty ogres, and 90s pop culture, acclaimed young playwright Qui Nguyen offers a heart-pounding homage to the geek and warrior within us all."
